Michael O’Mahoney is a sole practioner having been admitted to the role of solicitors in 1980. Michael O’Mahoney is accredited by the Legal Services Commission as an a police station representative and a court duty solicitor and has a vast experience of dealing with all types of criminal cases in the local courts.

The office also provides an out of hours free emergency local service to clients who require urgent legal help and assistance relating to criminal matters when the office is closed. This service can also include police station representation to clients who require such service. Legal Aid will be available to clients whose financial circumstances merit it.

For clients who find it difficult to visit the office, home visits can always be arranged to suit the clients needs.

WHAT IS A DUTY SOLICITOR?

A duty solicitor is a solicitor whose services may be available free of charge to a person either suspected of (police duty), or charged with (court duty), a criminal offence if that person does not have access to a solicitor of their own.

Despite popular suspicion to the contrary, duty solicitors are not Police or Court employed lawyers or in any way connected to them. They are in fact completely independent local solicitors that have achieved the required standard to be able to advise those that qualify for duty assistance.

In order to act as a duty solicitor in the UK a solicitor must be a member of the Criminal Litigation Accredited Scheme. To qualify to become a member of the scheme a solicitor must be able to demonstrate a particular level of experience and competence set by the Legal Services Commission.
